Use and Care of your Pottery
Cooking with your pottery:
When heating leftover food, or simply heating a plate to keep your food warm longer. Place your
plate/bowl in a cold oven or toaster oven, then turn it on and allow the pottery to heat with the oven.
And in turn allow to cool completely before placing in the fridge.
From the fridge, place plate in cold oven and heat, fast heating and cooling causes the glazes to craze.
Remembering it is fired to 2228 degrees F so it can handle an oven just gently is all.
Laundering Buttons:
My buttons after about 5 years now of making them are an accumulation of many batches of making glazing and damage testing (yes I do throw them to the floor to test for strength.
As a result they are made of the strongest and whitest porcelain, fired slowly creating an even stronger product.
As care is always best, if a washing machine is necessary the 1 1/4” and smaller on garments could be turned inside-out and if possible placed in a mesh bag if its a delicate item place on gentle cycle. Lay flat if possible to dry.
Smaller buttons can go in the dryer but the larger as in 2” and bigger I would not recommend in the dryer. Turned inside out.
Chicken Roasters:
As in above, place chicken over cup like portion in the middle of the Chicken roaster after filling with your favorite flavorings. I place water and vegies in outer ring watching that water does not cook away, once combined with chicken drippings makes a wonderful gravy. Bake in 375-400 degrees F for approx. 3 hours.
Makes a beautiful moist chicken.
Dishwasher:
The general recommendation is to not use the dishwasher, however it is easier so take care to place pottery where it will not get bumped and avoid the heat cycle. The fast heating and cooling can cause the glaze to craze which if fine cracks.
Often over time the glaze does this anyways but if we can avoid it it would be best.
